Naples is a fascinating place, and the film »Nostalgia« captures this fascination so sensitively – with all its romantic sides and all its ugly, more brutal aspects too. In 2023, the Italian film was nominated for an Academy Award. As part of the supporting programme for the Elbphilharmonie Festival »Viva Napoli«, it complements the concerts with an exciting story and authentic images of the southern Italian port city.
After 40 years, Felice returns to his homeland to see his mother, perhaps for the last time. Once there, he embarks on a journey to the place of his youth, a neighbourhood in Naples where danger has never gone away entirely. The film is a powerful recount of the fate of a sensitive, gentle man, whose return triggers a nostalgia within him that he cannot escape. It seems as though his past and the Mafia have been waiting for this very moment to finally catch up with him …
Elbphilharmonie PLUS is a programme that opens up different ways of looking at the music performed at the Elbphilharmonie – either to supplement a concert, or as an experience in its own right. Interdisciplinary encounters and exhibitions form part of the Elbphilharmonie+ programme, as do concert talks and films shown in museums, libraries, cinemas and community centres.
