Springboard

Even if young musicians graduate from the world’s best music universities and win prizes at prestigious competitions, there is still plenty mentors such as Sir András Schiff can do to give their careers a huge boost. That’s why the master pianist initiated the »Building Bridges« programme in 2014. Each year, he supports outstanding young talents by providing intensive coaching and opening the way for them to perform in leading concert halls. In 2024, the Italian pianist Martina Consonni and the Korean pianist Tomoki Park are the lucky recipients of this support.

András Schiff worked with the two musicians to develop their concert programmes, which he regards as a kind of calling card. »This is how you show who you are musically, what you’re currently curious about, what extra-musical ideas are important to you.«

The pianist Martina Consonni, who comes from Como in Italy and studied at the music university in Hanover, is predominantly focused on German and Austrian Romanticism (incl. Schubert and Schumann). In contrast, Tomoki Park – who studied at the Berlin University of the Arts – demonstrates his passion for modern music with works by Isang Yun and Heinz Holliger.
