Description

The Jerusalem Quartet was founded in 1997, and soon played its way into the top league of the string quartet world. Like the golden Israeli city, the musicians combine extreme opposites, moving effortlessly between different worlds and eras.

Claude Debussy is a composer who is frequently reduced to his piano and orchestral works; his String Quartet is not often performed. The Jerusalem Quartet combines it in one concert with a classic of the string quartet repertoire: Mozart’s »Hunt« Quartet. This work is a fine example of the ultimate perfection of the so-called Classical style.

The recital comes to an end with a piece by Dvořák, which betrays the strong influence of the composer’s time in America and his study of the music of the Native Americans.
