Film music with cult appeal

The score to »The Gold Rush« is one of Charlie Chaplin’s most melancholic and sombre compositions. It is striking just how meticulously the melodies have been refined and how much Chaplin detaches himself from rigid structures. The music not only illustrates the external circumstances of the respective scenes, such as storm, cold, battle or dance. It also gives tangible expression to the inner psychological workings of the protagonists.
