2. Internationales Musikfest Hamburg
He gave the gift of fire to the humans and led them into a mature and enlightened society: the demi-god Prometheus. He therefore embodied Beethoven’s ideal of freedom, thus promptly becoming the subject of a work of ballet music. Beethoven later used many few melodies from this ballet music for his epoch making »Eroica« symphony, which the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen perform at the Hamburg International Music Festival.
In actual fact, Beethoven wanted to dedicate »Eroica« to the human Prometheus Napoleon, until the latter lost all sense of boundaries and thus disqualified as an idol. Truly perfect interpreters of this fiery music are Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, who have already won several awards for their Beethoven cycle. A further special treat of this evening is Brahms’ »Double Concerto« played by internationally highly acclaimed violinist Christian Tetzlaff and his equally talented sister Tanja on cello.
