Elbphilharmonie Talk: Silvan Strauß

Elbphilharmonie Talk with Silvan Strauß

Drummer Silvan Strauß talks about the appeal of Hamburg, his Allgäu dialect and the addictive potential of his profession.

Please note: This podcast is only available in German.

Drummer Silvan Strauß is one of Hamburg’s most versatile jazzmen. When he’s not on tour with his band TOYTOY, he plays in the prizewinning Lisa Wulff Quartet, as a guest with the NDR Bigband or as sideman of big names like the singer Maria João. The native of Germany’s Alpine region Allgäu is now being awarded the Hamburg Jazz Prize. In the Elbphilharmonie Talk he speaks about his beginnings in an apartment building in Kempten, about concerts he was afraid of giving in Brazil, and the addictive potential of music.

»I turned the chair upside down and had a saucepan on each leg!«
