Vivi Vassileva has long since played her way to the top of the drumming world – she inspires audiences with her outstanding technique and brilliant virtuosity. She came to drums, marimba and mallets by chance: a Bulgarian percussion group on the beach captivated her, and from that day on, she couldn't get these instruments out of her head. The young German-Bulgarian percussionist was born into a family of violinists and grew up almost exclusively with string music for many years. In Elbphilharmonie Talk, she talks about the musical world she grew up in, how she became a professional musician and how she is taking a stand against environmental pollution with her Recycling Concert.
Vassileva is interviewed by Creator in Residence Daria Challah. The British artist will be a guest at the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle during the 2025/26 season and will shed light on the venues from different perspectives during her residency. She has already talked about the Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, who was honoured with a special focus, and taken a look behind the scenes of the venerable Laeiszhalle.
