»Pianomania« – Franz Liszt
Simply Liszt
In the »Pianomania« series this season, five pianists present a variety of programmes centred around Franz Liszt’s epochal Sonata in B Minor. Yulianna Avdeeva, whose playing combines technical mastery and a deep artistic maturity, goes all out: after playing a small panorama of Liszt’s piano music, she crowns the evening with the legendary sonata.
Franz Liszt composed visionary works in a variety of genres, but the world’s first superstar pianist always felt most at home on the piano. Liszt kept surprising his audiences with new, poetic piano pieces in which he constantly redefined the boundaries of what was possible.
Whether dark and moody as in »Lugubre gondola« (The Black Gondola), dance-like and grotesque as in »Csárdás macabre«, or like a stunning painting in sound as in the »Legends« – with Liszt, the possibilities of the piano are infinite.
