Woods of Birnam

Christian Friedel is best known as an actor but he also has a very successful music project called Woods of Birnam with four musicians from the band Polarkreis 18. On the new album »Grace«, Friedel makes a very personal attempt to come to terms with the loss of a loved one. His mother died unexpectedly in December 2013. That left him asking the questions that remain when someone is gone forever: how do you deal with the memories, the stabbing longing and the infinite love for your mother? What is life and what do you do with it now? The music stands in a deliberate contrast to the subject matter: pop and indie-pop in a range of hues and with a zeal for experimentation bring about the comforting realisation in the end that life goes on.
