Wiener Symphoniker / Jan Lisiecki / Omer Meir Wellber
Mozart / Mahler
In good hands
»My Fifth Symphony is a cursed work. No one understands it,« wrote Gustav Mahler, frustrated after the premiere in Hamburg in 1905. He could never have imagined that it would become one of his most popular and famous works – not least as a result of the symbolic use of the »Adagietto« in Visconti’s film version of »Death in Venice«. It delivers everything you would wish of a great symphony: passion, contrasts and richness of tone – with the highest level of virtuosity demanded of the musicians in every single voice. Thankfully, such a masterpiece is in good hands with the Wiener Symphoniker under the baton of Omer Meir Wellber; as is Mozart’s serenely beautiful Piano Concerto in C Major, when performed with Jan Lisiecki’s magic touch.
