As an artist, Juliette Gréco was one of a kind. At the age of 16 the young girl from southern France was captured by the Gestapo and only narrowly escaped deportation. A short time later she became one of the stars of Paris’ post-war jazz clubs, where she cast a spell over famous poets, musicians and philosophers. Taboos meant nothing to her: she was open about loving men and women, and she fought for equal rights and against racism. She preserved her freedom, followed her instincts and always remained faithful to her great love: the chanson.
