Lalo / Tschaikowsky / Dvořák
Escaping reality
On this evening, the audience is invited on a musical journey of the imagination: the concert opens with Édouard Lalo’s Overture from »Le Roi d’Ys«, an impressive, noble and colourful work that evokes regal feelings. Tchaikovsky’s »Polonaise«, on the other hand, exudes lightness and a dance-like esprit. In lively and stimulating style, that entertaining piece leads to the evening’s grand finale: Antonín Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony »From the New World« takes the audience on an exciting and mysterious expedition into the unknown.
The University Symphony Orchestra of the KU Leuven is the student orchestra from the Catholic University Leuven in Belgium. It gives opportunities to students of the University to pursue their dreams as musicians alongside their higher studies at this university. With a tradition of 60 years, it was also able to show its quality to the world last year with, among others, the winner of the Audience Prize in the Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition 2019, Sylvia Huang.
