A new music of diversity – classical, groove and improvisation
In mythology, the trickster is always a cunning chameleon who breaks rules and conventions, and enjoys disrupting the »divine order«. The Trickster Orchestra has taken this characterisation and made it its own. Inspired by the vision of bringing outstanding soloists from different musical traditions together on one stage, the jazz musician Cymin Samawatie founded an ensemble in 2013 that has remained in creative flow with its ever-changing line-ups ever since.
The aim of the now award-winning orchestra: to foster cohesion between Berlin’s independent music scene and members of institutional ensembles like the Berlin Philharmonic in order to make contemporary music together. The result: a new musical language that combines classical influences, electronics, new music, jazz, pop, hip-hop and improvisation – individual, fluid and unconventional. A musical coming-together of East and West, of past and present, of soloists and ensemble.
