»I’ve always genuinely been into jazz, influenced as I was by my brother,« says Thomas Quasthoff in interview. »And when I stopped singing classical music around five years ago, a lot of friends came and asked me if I wouldn’t to do some jazz?« And that’s exactly what he did. The triple Grammy and six-times ECHO Award winner is, to borrow his own phrase, a »stage hog« through and through – extroverted, unrestrained and endowed with an irrepressible yearning to express himself. Having retired from the stage as a classical singer, one of those outlets of expression is now jazz – scatting, grooving, full of passion, remarkably cool, and with world-class jazz musicians at his side.
