The Grand Chinese New Year’s Concert
»Ins Jahr des Hundes«
After a grandiose anniversary tour that took three different Chinese orchestras through no fewer than 13 countries in 2017, the 21st Chinese New Year’s Concert now celebrates the start of the Year of the Dog in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall. Since the first concert in Vienna’s Musikverein in 1998, the Grand Chinese New Year’s Concert has attracted over 250,000 music lovers. Every year, at the time of the Chinese spring festivities, one of the country’s many traditional orchestras gives a sample of China’s rich, 3,000-year-old musical tradition in concert halls all over the world, ranging from the sound of the horse’s head violin from Inner Mongolia to the Cantonese melodies of the gaohu, from classical Chinese music to contemporary works.
