Haydn / Schumann / Debussy
The Mettis Quartet was founded in 2011 in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. The quartet soon became one of the most interesting string ensembles in Europe. In 2016 the ensemble won the first prize at the International V.E. Rimbotti Competition in Italy. The Mettis Quartet will perform in the popular Teatime Classics series in the Brahms Foyer of the Laeiszhalle and for their concert programme the musicians have selected two chamber music masterpieces from two consecutive eras: Haydn’s »Lark« quartet with its shift between profound earnestness and liberating humour, and Schumann’s String Quartet in A major, which impressively reveals the full-bodied and multifaceted fantasy world of the poetry-writing composer.
