Symphoniker Hamburg / Sylvain Cambreling
Haspa New Year’s Concert
Clockwise, counter-clockwise! The Symphoniker Hamburg starts the New Year under its new chief conductor in buoyant mood. Vienna was gripped by a dancing craze in Johann Strauss Jr.’s time, and that despite warnings from doctors about »life-threatening attacks of dizziness«. The violin-playing »Waltz King« himself couldn’t dance at all – but then as director of the court ball he didn’t need to: »When I play the violin, even the chicks in their eggs dance to the tune«. Also on the programme this evening are equally spirited works penned by other composers to tap your toes to. Violinist Alexandra Conunova comes from Moldova and is performing with the Symphoniker for the first time. Happy New Year!
