»Lied der Nacht« / »Song of the Night«: Shostakovich / Mahler
The Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg: one of the most famous houses of opera and ballet in the world. Countless major operas have been premiered there and the theatre is also a major supporter of up and coming performers. For Shostakovich’s song cycle »From Jewish Folk Poetry« three of Mariinsky Theatre’s resident vocalists make their entrance in the Laeiszhalle. The second half of the concert is devoted to guest conductor Ion Marin and Mahler’s »Lied der Nacht« (Song of the Night), his Seventh Symphony.
