Symphoniker Hamburg / Ion Marin / Dvořák’s Requiem
Matinee: »Silence and Ecstasy«
It has been said about Dvořák that he is a composer one can argue about as little as one would about spring: his music flows with heavenly naturalness, is full of freshness, with skilful use of colour. His emotional setting of the Requiem is a good example. It is held together by a leitmotif, a painful sigh that appears many times in the score, be it in instrumental or vocal form, varied in key, rhythm, metre and timbre. In fact the motif is heard over 100 times in a work that is just short of 100 minutes long!
