Symphoniker Hamburg / Giacomo Sagripanti
»Primo Corno Assoluto« / VielHarmonie / PhilHarmony Concert
What is generally known as a French horn is actually a natural horn and just one of many different horns. However they are all technically challenging. The Italian musician, Alessio Allegrini, who performed pieces by Benjamin Britten with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra last season, is one of Europe’s leading French horn players. He returns to the Laeiszhalle with two horn concertos from two different eras.
The tone colour of Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 2 is warm and melodic. In contrast, Richard Strauss’ first concerto for the horn, composed in his early years, is in the spirit of the Romantic.
The conductor Giacomo Sagripanti, a fellow-countryman of Allegrini, presents the perfect addition: two sublime classical symphonies by Luigi Cherubini and Joseph Haydn.
