»Sprich leise, wenn du Liebe sagst« / Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya
Reading and Concert / Hamburg International Music Festival
Kurt Weill wrote most of his catchy, but at the same time provocative and meaningful songs for his great love, the singer and actress Lotte Lenya. Their relationship was turbulent in the extreme: they met in 1924 and were married two years later. Divorce followed in 1933, then in 1937 they got married a second time. They were both perfectly open to affairs on the side, yet Weill wrote to Lenya: »I think we must be the only married couple without problems«. The wonderful correspondence between them is simultaneously a love story and a historic document.
Please note: The reading takes place in German.
