»I felt completely at home in Schleswig-Holstein«, enthused Sol Gabetta after her time as Artist in Residence at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in 2014. Those who missed the opportunity to attend one of the 17 fantastic concerts she gave then can make up for that in 2017 – there is even a choice between a recital and an orchestral concert.
Édouard Lalo’s Cello Concerto was not on the programme in 2014; indeed, it is played far too rarely. It is a charming, delightful piece that – thanks to its Spanish flair – goes perfectly with Ravel’s popular »Pavane pour une infante défunte«, which is, according to Ravel himself, a remembrance of a pavane a little princess might have danced in the Spanish court in days of yore.
