Sitkovetsky Trio
Schumann / Grieg / Mendelssohn
Joke in a trio
»Incredibly well matched, this is an established trio and you can tell how much they trust each other« was the verdict on the Sitkovetsky Trio on BBC radio recently. And on top of that, the Sitkovetsky Trio has really developed an exceptional quality over the years. The three musicians bring with them a truly unique composition in Charles Ives’s Piano Trio.
Over the three movements of the trio, Ives thematises incidents and conventions at Yale University, where he studied and composed his piano trio. The first movement refers to the earnest address of a professor, the third to a composition from his time as a student, which Ives wrote for the university choir and orchestra. And the second movement... is something of a gag. A Scherzo titled »TSIAJ«, which stands for »This Scherzo is a joke«. Isn’t it lovely?
