Schumann Quartett / Mathias Weber
Mendelssohn Bartholdy / Franck
Birthday song
What a beautiful way to celebrate César Franck’s 200th birthday: the pianist Mathias Weber performs three concerts on César Franck’s original Érard grand piano in the Laeiszhalle and in the Elbphilharmonie. This year’s Érard Festival opens with music for solo piano. The varied chamber music evening in the Laeiszhalle Recital Hall begins with a selection of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s richly coloured songs without words. There is also a special focus on César Franck’s famous Piano Quintet , which Mathias Weber presents in two different versions. On the first evening, he is performing the epic chamber music work with the Schumann Quartet, and then again on the great stage of the Laeiszhalle the following evening in a version for piano and orchestra.
