Saleem Ashkar
Pianomania
Saleem Ashkar garnered international attention in 2016 with his performance of the complete Beethoven piano sonatas. The Palestine pianist was born in Nazareth and made his New York Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 22, having been discovered by star conductor Zubin Mehta. Daniel Barenboim continues to support him, and they regularly perform together. The programme of his »Pianomania« recital juxtaposes Baroque preludes from various works by Johann Sebastian Bach – the »forefather« of all preludes – with the impressionist sound worlds of Claude Debussy and Olivier Messiaen.
