Sabine Meyer
Wagner / Weber / Mendelssohn
»A Global Star with a Heart« – that was the title of a 2013 Sabine Meyer biography that focused on her exemplary musical career. The exceptional clarinettist, who was appointed to the Berlin Philharmonic by legendary conductor Herbert von Karajan when she was just 23, has remained approachable and down-to-earth despite her phenomenal success. Eight ECHO Klassik awards, concerts around the globe and lofty praise in the media have done nothing to change that.
Along the way, Sabine Meyer, with her warm yet technically precise playing, has also succeeded in getting a broad audience and several composers interested in her instrument. In that sense, she is following in the footsteps of clarinet virtuoso Heinrich Joseph Baermann, who is said to have inspired Carl Maria von Weber and Felix Mendelssohn to compose their clarinet concertos, which Sabine Meyer now performs in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall.
