Regensburger Domspatzen
The Regensburger Domspatzen are one of the world’s oldest and most famous boys’ choirs. The cathedral school »Domschule der Hohen Domkirche St. Peter zu Regensburg« was founded as long ago as the year 975, and the Domspatzen receive their musical training here from the first grade on. The pupils originally had the job of performing the liturgy in the Episcopal Church, but today they work together with top-drawer ensembles such as Concerto Köln and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. Regular concert tours have taken the Domspatzen all over the world: from Japan to South Africa, from the USA to China, and from the Vatican to the Office of the German President. Their concert programme in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall features sacred music from Palestrina to Mendelssohn, Duruflé and Rheinberger, as well as madrigals by Orlando di Lasso, Schubert lieder, well-known folk songs, Romantic choral music by Dvořak and Brahms, and even an excursion into the pop world with songs by the Beatles, Abba and Sting.
