In the early 2000s, singer Lisa Bassenge lit up the jazz scene like a comet, while simultaneously making it clear that »jazz« was too narrow a field for her. The Berlin artist positioned herself as a pop song interpreter, Knef adept and club icon. Lisa Bassenge dedicates her new stage programme »Mothers« to the mothers of popular music; composers such as Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Suzanne Vega and PJ Harvey all feature in the programme, alongside newcomers such as Billie Eilish. In her interpretations, Bassenge makes the most of her versatile and incredibly emotive voice – first-class singer-songwriter jazz with depth and poetry.
