Piano Recital: Igor Levit
Bach / Rzewski / Beethoven
»This work was a complete turning point for me. I’ve only rarely experienced such a journey of discovery and such an intensive coexistence with a piece.« Igor Levit has a special relationship with Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, and the piece is, understandably, a key work on his most recent, highly acclaimed CD.
In this recital, Levit combines the Variations with Bach’s Partita No. 1 and Frederic Rzewski’s Dreams II, which was written specially for him by the American composer. According to Levit, Rzewski »is still creating music that moves people in the most direct and thrilling way and that gives them the feeling: ›You are part of the whole.‹« For the reflective young pianist, sharing this experience with his audience is an important concern.
