Piano Day
Pablo Held Trio / Julie Sassoon / Alexander von Schlippenbach
The diversity of European jazz in two concerts on the same day: two young German lady jazz musicians open Piano Day in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall – Julia Kadel, who was signed by the legendary Blue Note label early in her career, and singer Lucia Cadotsch, who presents her trio »Speak Low«, joined here by the British pianist Kit Downes. In the evening, English pianist Julie Sassoon focuses on composed pieces extended by improvisation that mix classical and modern jazz with klezmer. Alexander von Schlippenbach and Gerd Dudek, two heroes of German free jazz, take inspiration from Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane. And with the Pablo Held Trio, one of Germany’s most popular jazz trios appears at the Elbphilharmonie. With Pablo Held’s programme »Medusa Beats«, percussionist Jonas Burgwinkel and the grandiose Benoît Delbecq bring the evening to a remarkable close.
