New start with Mahler

After a coronavirus-induced break from concert life and a 30th anniversary that passed with far too little music, Hamburg’s Orchester ’91 is celebrating a fresh start with their new conductor Bar Avni. After her exam in 2019, the young musician made her debut with several professional orchestras and was the recipient of a scholarship by the Kurt Masur Institute in 2021.

The programme features Gustav Mahler’s moving Fifth Symphony, which marks the beginning of a new creative period for the composer. His musical language becomes even more diverse at this point – very different musical characters enter into dialogue. The monumental work includes five movements, among them the famous, deeply moving »Adagietto« for string players. At the start of the concert, Bar Avni and Orchester ’91 present a comprehensive introduction to the work, with musical examples and explanations. Fully prepared, the audience can then enjoy the symphony and its captivating musical language after the break.
