NDR Jugendsinfonieorchester

The NDR Jugendsinfonieorchester opens its annual concert at the Elbphilharmonie with a rapid firework display of complex rhythms and catchy melodies in Shostakovich’s Festive Overture Op. 96, followed by highlights from Prokofiev’s ballet »Romeo and Juliet«. Petr Popelka, Conductor Fellow of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, will put together a suite specially for this concert, offering great insights into Prokofiev’s rich and versatile instrumentation. After the interval, Alan Gilbert, Chief Conductor of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, then conducts the young musicians, bringing the concert to a close with Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances Op. 45.
