»Tell me, pretty child, where are you going?« This is one of the lines from the last song in Hector Berlioz’s »Les nuits d’été« (Summer Nights). Indeed, it is never too early for summery dreams of far-away places. Artist in Residence, Philippe Jaroussky, together with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra take you on a journey to imaginary days of summer, as early as May. Of course, Shakespeare’s summer classic, »A Midsummer Night’s Dream« also figures prominently next to the yearning Berlioz songs, to which Jaroussky’s glorious countertenor lends a very special colouring.

Please note:
Thomas Hengelbrock has been forced to cancel his participation in the concerts with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra on 4, 5 and 7 May due to illness. Antonello Manacorda steps in to take over the direction of the concerts at the Elbphilharmonie.

As a result of the change of artist, the programme has been slightly altered: the suite from Henry Purcell’s »The Fairy Queen« will not be performed. Antonello Manacorda conducts »The Fair Melusine« overture by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in lieu thereof.
