Everyone loves Esa-Pekka Salonen: orchestras around the world hold his impeccable technique in high regard, audiences acclaim his energetic and detailed interpretations, and musicians and fans alike love his music, which is sophisticated and accessible in equal measure. In January 2022, as part of a two-year Salonen spotlight, the Finnish conductor presents two portrait concerts with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, featuring his own works and works by other composers.
As a result of the high coronavirus infection rates at the moment, Esa-Pekka Salonen and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra have decided not to perform the works initially planned for these concerts because of the large choirs they require. Instead, they have put together an exciting selection of works by the composers initially programmed, Salonen and Ravel.
