NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Alan Gilbert
Chin / Bartók / Rachmaninow
Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto is one of the greatest achievements of the concerto canon and brings this evening’s programme to a magnificent close. Josef Hofmann, to whom the work was dedicated, refused to play it, saying it was too hard. A great name now takes up the challenge with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra: Yefim Bronfman, bringing about the culmination of his regular collaboration with Alan Gilbert.
