NDR das neue werk: Ginastera I
Alberto Ginastera is one of the outstanding Latin American composers of the 20th century. Roughly at the same time as Silvestre Revueltas in Mexico or Heitor Villa-Lobos in Brazil, Ginastera, who was born in a working-class district of Buenos Aires in 1916, placed Argentina on the map of classical music. The Argentine composer, who died in 1983, altered his style several times in the course of his career, but all his works share one constant, namely a deep feeling for his native country and its nature. The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester and the series »NDR das neue werk« devote two concerts to Ginastera, giving an overview of both his orchestral and his chamber music.
