»Music!« – A Roger Willemsen Evening
Harbour Front Literaturfestival
Roger Willemsen, who died in 2016, attached great personal importance to music. He was not only a writer, presenter and one of Germany’s leading intellectuals, but also a passionate music lover, expert and educator. In many legendary formats such as » Willemsens Musikszene« (Willemsen’s Music Scene), the cult radio show »Willemsen Legt Auf« (Willemsen’s Favourite Discs), and the music column in weekly paper »Die Zeit«, not to mention essays, films, events and portraits, he displayed deep understanding for music and its interpreters. The posthumously published book »Musik! Über ein Lebensgefühl« collects his texts on the subject: declarations of love to the passion of a lifetime, and tributes to it. In this event, Joachim Król reads from Roger Willemsen’s book in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall. Jazz pianist Frank Chastenier and his trio supply the accompanying music, while special guest Ulrich Tukur bridges the gap between texts and music.
Please note that this event takes place in German.
