The Pavel Haas Quartet feels especially committed to the music of its native Czech Republic: string quartets by Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů regularly feature on the ensemble’s recital programmes. For its second concert in the »Czech it out!« festival, the Pavel Haas Quartet has chosen to perform a selection of  Leoš Janáček’s arrangements of Moravian folk songs.

The vocal parts are taken by the singer Gabriela Vermelho and the quartet’s former viola player Pavel Nikl, both of whom also pick up the violin now and again, and also the quinton, a five-string treble viol that was one of the forerunners of the violin.

This programme of folk music is rounded off by the first performance of a piece by the young Czech composer Pavel Fischer.
