Martha Argerich Festival

The musicians of the Symphoniker Hamburg assemble around pianist Martha Argerich for a fascinating chamber recital with different line-ups. The programme opens with character pieces by the great virtuoso Fritz Kreisler as »portraits of the good old days in Vienna«. They are followed by Mendelssohn’s masterly Trio, Op. 49, of which contemporaries said that it »would bring pleasure to grandchildren and great-grandchildren many years later«. The closing piece is Schumann’s brilliant Piano Quintet, where the five instruments blend to form an ecstatic-sounding ensemble of almost symphonic dimensions.
