»I am a storyteller«, says the acclaimed coloratura soprano Marlis Petersen. The composition of her stage roles and song recitals is rooted in her passion to tell stories. And her stories are as varied as her versatility; Petersen’s voice invites you to discover the unknown and re-experience the familiar.
For her song recital at the Elbphilharmonie, Marlis Petersen sings French mélodies about the »Paths of Love«. Works by Fauré or Hahn evoke the Fin de Siècle, the charm of a vanished era; Francis Poulenc treads paths between irony and melancholy. Here, Petersen catches the light, frivolous and poetic form of French song. The Strauss lieder strike other keys: they are sumptuous and literally floral.
Petersen is accompanied by Camillo Radicke, an outstanding artist who captures the soloist’s timbre with sensitive pianistic hues.
