Sensitive harmonies

The pianist Markus Altenkamp is an artist on the programme »The Best Musicians from Alte Druckerei Ottensen«, which was initiated by the musicologist Prof. Dr Herbert Bruhn to promote top international musicians. His solo programme in the Laeiszhalle Recital Hall features works from the Baroque and Romantic periods.

The evening opens with the Baroque compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach and Domenico Scarlatti, whose harmonies, sensitive expression and difficult playing technique pre-empt Romanticism in a way. Afterwards, the pianist moves on to Romantic composers such as Felix Mendelssohn, Sergey Rachmaninov and the early Alexander Scriabin, who was heavily influenced by Chopin. Markus Altenkamp trained at Cologne’s University of Music and Goldsmiths in London. Concert tours have taken him all over Germany and the world, in particular western Europe, Russia and the USA. For the audiobook »My America, Your America«, he recorded his own arrangements of American music on CD.
