Manuel Barrueco
Master of the Concert Guitar
In Manuel Barrueco, Hamburger Gitarrentage 2019 presents a true guitar legend. The Cuban concert guitarist is without question one of the leading artists in the classical music world. His enormous talent was nurtured from an early age: he emigrated with his family to the USA and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, where he now teaches himself. He has numerous benchmark recordings to his name on the EMI label. Major composers such as Arvo Pärt and Toru Takemitsu have dedicated works to him. Alongside the classical repertoire, he also regularly works with musicians from other genres. The »Nylon & Steel« project, for example, saw him perform with guitarists such as Al Di Meola, Andy Summers and Steve Morse.
