Mahler: Resurrection Symphony
Bamberg Symphony / Jakub Hrůša – 2G+ AND PHYSICAL DISTANCE
Existential struggle
»Oh believe, my heart! Oh believe: Nothing will be lost to you!« There is perhaps no other symphony that has greater symbolic power for our time than Mahler’s »Resurrection Symphony«, about which Mahler himself wrote: »It all sounds as if it’s from a different world. And I don’t think anyone will be able to resist the effect. – The listener is beaten to the floor with clubs and then lifted to the highest heights on angel’s wings.« By the time the Bamberger Symphoniker perform the work, which is a »true expression of Mahler’s existential struggle«, in the Elbphilharmonie in February 2022, the world of culture will hopefully have overcome its struggle, regained its wings and will be looking forward to the future with optimism.
