Contemporary chamber music

Classical music is firmly rooted in his DNA, while jazz has taught him to stand on his own two feet – and when improvising freely, the pianist Lorenz Kellhuber always taps in to the boundless fulfilment of his musical vision: a contemporary chamber music. He plays with his own musical history, intuitively seeking out various different points within his musical predispositions, ranging from baroque to modern piano. In this concert, Lorenz Kellhuber returns to the Elbphilharmonie one year on to present his new album »Live at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg«, which was recorded live in the Recital Hall in September 2021.

Born in Munich in 1990 as the son of two church musicians, Kellhuber started classical piano lessons at the age of five. At just 16 he was officially deemed to be highly gifted, and began his studies at the Jazz-Institut-Berlin, graduating as one of the youngest people in the world with a Bachelor’s degree. In 2014 Monty Alexander selects him as the first German musician to win the renowned Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition. Then in 2016 he is nominated for the ECHO Jazz Prize in the category »Newcomer of the Year« and in 2018 he is named as one of the ten »new key players« in the music magazine »Jazz thing«. Since completing his studies, Lorenz Kellhuber has been a sought-after lecturer and regularly gives workshops and master classes both at home and abroad. In the winter semester of 2021, Kellhuber took up a professorship at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden.
