Les Siècles / Isabelle Faust / Jean-Frédéric Neuburger / François-Xavier Roth
Ligeti: Chamber Concerto & Piano Concerto / Mozart: Violin Concerto & »Haffner« Symphony
Viennese classics – Modern classics
In this second musical encounter between Mozart in his adoptive Vienna and Ligeti in his adoptive Hamburg, François-Xavier Roth conducts his formidable orchestra Les Siècles. And, as in the first concert, Isabelle Faust takes centre stage. Jean-Frédéric Neuburger plays the furiously vibrant Piano Concerto by Ligeti, the Modernist master. And Faust performs Mozart’s divine Violin Concerto in G Major on her »Sleeping Beauty« Stradivari.
Alexander Melnikov will unfortunately not be able to play the concert on 27 September. In his place, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger will take over the solo part in György Ligeti’s Piano Concerto. The programme remains unchanged.
But before these two solo concertos, no less than 13 of the Les Siècles musicians demonstrate their soloistic abilities in Ligeti’s captivating Chamber Concerto, which the composer himself said involves »super-fast soloistic actions«.
A symphonic highlight then follows in Mozart’s »Haffner« Symphony, which is said to have been enthusiastically applauded by the Kaiser himself at the premiere in 1783.
