Les Siècles / Isabelle Faust / Alexander Melnikov / François-Xavier Roth
Ligeti: Concert Românesc & Violin Concerto / Mozart: Piano Concerto & »Jupiter« Symphony
Salzburg meets Transylvania!
François-Xavier Roth and his original-sound orchestra Les Siècles demonstrate their versatility with a fascinating musical dialogue! In this concert, they combine Mozart’s Salzburg sounds with those of the Transylvanian Ligeti, whose 100th birthday we mark this year. And, in this exercise of musical bridge building, two exceptional musicians who normally play as a duo – violinist Isabelle Faust and pianist Alexander Melnikov – perform separately as soloists.
Ligeti’s Concert Românesc, which is dotted with folk references, is followed by his Violin Concerto, the final version of which was premiered in Cologne in 1992 and which also plays with African rhythms and Far Eastern timbres.
Then: Mozart! First, in Alexander Melnikov’s hands, the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A Major KV 488 is a delightful and captivating gem that is also full of ideas. Then, with the »Jupiter« Symphony, the orchestra performs Mozart’s final and most famous symphony.
