Le Poème Harmonique / Vincent Dumestre
»Lully & Molière« / Das Alte Werk – Hamburg International Music Festival
Musical birthday greeting
Happy Birthday, Molière! To mark the 400th anniversary of the brilliant French playwright’s birth, Le Poème Harmonique invites you to a very special concert. For Molière was not only the author of clever society satires like »Tartuffe« and »Le Misanthrope«, he also wrote highly entertaining comédie-ballets. Accompanied by delightful music by no lesser a composer than Jean-Baptiste Lully, pieces like »Le bourgeois Gentilhomme« and »Monsieur de Pourceaugnac« were popular entertainment at the court of Louis XIV, the »Sun King«. To celebrate the anniversary, the period-performance ensemble under the baton of Vincent Dumestre presents music and singing from the brilliant dance comedies by Molière and Lully.
