Le Encantadas / Ensemble intercontemporain
Portrait Olga Neuwirth / »Venice« Easter Festival
The »Encantadas«, the enchanted isles – this is the name American writer Herman Melville gave to the Galápagos Islands, which can move according to legend. In her music theatre piece, Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth lets individual soundscapes wander through the concert hall and takes the audience on an acoustic journey through her long-time adopted home of Venice. The special acoustic of the Chiesa di San Lorenzo, where Neuwirth once heard a performance of Luigi Nono’s »Prometeo«, and background noises of Venice, such as church bells ringing and the sounds of boats, are simulated using numerous loudspeakers distributed among the audience.
