Composer Kurt Weill wrote music history together with author Bertolt Brecht. At the outset of the 20th century they collaborated to produce the »Threepenny Opera« and the »Rise and Fall of the City Mahagonny«, two examples of politically-motivated opera that caused a stir in their day. Not long after, both artists had to flee Nazi Germany and emigrated to the United States of America, where Weill established himself as a leading musical composer. In tonight’s concert, Kolja Blacher and Özgür Aydin perform selected songs from the »Threepenny Opera« in arrangements for violin and piano. The programme is rounded off with tunes from the »Rise and Fall of the City Mahagonny« in jazz arrangements for clarinet and accordion, played by Gianluigi Trovesi and Gianni Coscia.
