The familiar in a new context
The »Knollektiv«, a project by the trumpeter Johannes Knoll, is dedicated to modern European jazz. Formed in Hamburg in 2021, the band’s sound feeds on the individuality of the five members, each of whom brings their own ideas on the trumpet, saxophone, piano, bass and drums. Knollektiv places familiar melodies, motifs and styles in unfamiliar contexts: music by Igor Stravinsky is underlaid with new harmonies, and sounds by Billy Joel are mixed at random with John Coltrane. The young jazz musicians have already performed at Hamburg’s »Elbjazz« festival.
Jazz at the Kulturcafé is a monthly event presenting the most promising upcoming artists in the jazz and singer-songwriter scene. It is the perfect experimental platform for musicians and bands from Hamburg and all over the country. The atmosphere is laid back – and admission is free!
